Messier 106 or NGC 4258 (right) is a spiral galaxy at a distance of about 21-25 million light years.
The blue knots in the end of its spiral arms are probably young star clusters formed only a few million years ago.
Due to its unusual x-ray emissions and emission lines, it is suspected that part of M106 is falling into
a supermassive black hole in its center.
The edge on galaxy in the upper left of this image is NGC4217. |
